Modanese ‡1 Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Faculty of Science and Technology, Bolzano, Italy TIS Innovation Park, Bolzano, Italy We introduce a heterogeneous network structure into the Bass diffusion model, in order to study the diffusion times of innovation or information in networks with a scale-free structure, typical of regions where diffusion is sensitive to geographic and logistic influences (like for instance Alpine regions). We consider both the diffusion peak times of the total population and of the link classes. In the familiar trickle-down processes the adoption curve of the hubs is found to anticipate the total adoption in a predictable way. In a major departure from the standard model, we model a trickle-up process by introducing heterogeneous publicity coefficients (which can also be negative for the hubs, thus turning them into stiflers) and a stochastic term which represents the erratic generation of innovation at the periphery of the network. The results confirm the robustness of the Bass model and expand considerably its range of applicability.

Balanced clusters and diffusion process in signed networks
In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...
متن کاملLanguage Change and Social Networks
Social networks play an important role in determining the dynamics and outcome of language change. Early empirical studies only examine small-scale local social networks, and focus on the relationship between the individual speakers’ linguistic behaviors and their characteristics in the network. In contrast, computer models can provide an efficient tool to consider large-scale networks with dif...
متن کاملAnomalous conductance and diffusion in complex networks
We study transport properties such as conductance and diffusion of complex networks such as scale-free and Erdős-Rényi networks. We consider the equivalent conductance G between two arbitrarily chosen nodes of random scale-free networks with degree distribution P (k) ∼ k−λ and Erdős-Rényi networks in which each link has the same unit resistance. Our theoretical analysis for scale-free networks ...
متن کاملThe Need for a Dynamic Approach to Health System-Centered Innovations; Comment on “What Health System Challenges Should Responsible Innovation in Health Address? Insights From an International Scoping Review”
Lehoux and colleagues plea for a health systems perspective to evaluate innovations. Since many innovations and their scale-up strategies emerge from processes that are not (centrally) steered, we plea for any assessment with a dynamic, instead of a sequential, approach. We provide further guidance on how to adopt such dynamic approach, in order to better un-derstand an...
متن کاملAn Analysis of Word-of-Mouth Effects on Social Networks
In this paper, we discuss how the neighbors affect the decision of consumer behavior over diffusion of innovation. We suggest an agent-based model of diffusion and showed that on an online social network which have both of ”scale-free” and ”small world” properties, 1) the informative effect can cause a takeoff, but it is not sufficient to reach the completion of diffusion. 2) Meanwhile, the com...
